Start/Stop Disable
SMOOTHER · KINDER · CALMER
Tired of the engine cutting out at every set of lights and having to press the override button each time you start up? I can permanently deactivate your car’s automatic Start/Stop system with a simple ECU calibration — fully mobile across Bridgend, Cardiff, Swansea and the M4 corridor. It’s software-only, fully reversible, and won’t affect your MOT.
Why disable Start/Stop?
Manufacturers fit automatic Start/Stop to help meet laboratory emissions tests, but in everyday driving a lot of owners find it does more harm than good. The constant shutting down and restarting isn’t just irritating — it affects cabin comfort and puts extra strain on parts that weren’t designed to be cycled that hard.
Rather than reaching for the override button every single time you start the car, I reprogram the ECU so the system stays off (or remembers your preference), for good.
What you get from disabling it
A Start/Stop deactivation is a small change that makes a real difference to both how the car drives and how long its components last:
01
Longer starter and alternator life. Constant restarting can put your starter motor and alternator through many times more cycles than a normal car, wearing out expensive hardware well before its time.
02
Less battery strain. Even the heavy-duty AGM and EFB batteries these cars use get worked hard by frequent restarts. Keeping the engine running helps the battery stay properly charged.
03
Turbo protection. After a motorway run a turbo is extremely hot and relies on oil still circulating to cool down. A Start/Stop shutdown at a junction traps that heat in the turbo, which over time can carbonise oil and damage it.
04
Steady cabin climate. When the engine cuts at the lights, the air-con compressor stops too. Deactivating Start/Stop keeps your heating or cooling constant instead of swinging hot or cold.
05
Sharper, safer pull-aways. No more hesitation, lag or engine shudder when you’re trying to get away quickly from a busy roundabout or junction.
Save by bundling with Stage 1
Bundle with a Stage 1 remap
Deactivating Start/Stop means connecting to your ECU anyway — so if you’re also thinking about a Stage 1 remap, it makes sense to do both in the same visit and save on the labour. A combined Stage 1 and Start/Stop package gives you:
• Noticeable gains in power and torque
• Smoother throttle response and better economy
• The Start/Stop system deactivated at the same time
Ask about combining the two when you get in touch — it’s the most cost-effective way to get both done.
Common questions
Will disabling Start/Stop void my warranty?
As with any ECU calibration, changing the factory software could affect your manufacturer’s powertrain warranty if a fault is ever traced directly back to the software. That said, the process is fully reversible — I save a secure backup of your original factory map first, so the car can be returned to standard at any time.
Can I fit a cheaper battery once it’s disabled?
No. Even with Start/Stop off, modern cars have complex electrics, smart charging and high-demand systems that still need the original specification of AGM or EFB battery. Fitting a cheaper battery can cause electrical faults.
Will it fail my MOT?
No. Unlike removing physical emissions hardware such as a DPF or EGR valve, a software Start/Stop deactivation doesn’t alter any physical emissions parts. It won’t cause an MOT or roadworthiness failure, provided there are no engine management warning lights showing on the dash.
How I work
Start/Stop deactivation is carried out fully mobile across Bridgend, Cardiff, Swansea and the M4 corridor — I come to you, and it only takes a short visit. Your original ECU file is always read and saved first, so the system can be switched back on at any time if you change your mind.
